KARACHI, May 24: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has launched a special campaign to save drinking water from contamination and set up a “Contamination Removing Unit” which will function round-the-clock.

This was stated by KWSB Managing Director Brig Iftekhar Haider while chairing a meeting at his office.

Brig Haider pointed out that illegal connections, boring and well water can pose serious threats of gastro and other stomach problems due to risk of water contamination.

People were cautioned to take utmost care and ensure proper boiling before using it. He especially advised the residents of katchi abadies to take care while using water for drinking.

He called for desalination of all the drains and manholes to check water contamination in case the sewerage lines get chocked.

He asked KWSB officials to convey warnings to people through announcements from mosques and media. People were appealed to immediately register complaints, if any, about water contamination and overflowing of gutters near water pipelines in their respective areas.

The KWSB officials were further asked to write a letter to EDO Health for necessary measures regarding use of water from wells.—APP
