LAHORE: An unidentified swindler posing as a buyer on Monday allegedly took away an expensive car of a man during a test drive in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
According to a police official, Zulfiqar Ali, a resident of DHA Phase 8, advertised his car on a popular online platform, demanding Rs9 million price.
Responding to the advertisement, a man visited Zulfiqar’s house, introducing himself as a prospective buyer and holding negotiations with him, apparently to strike a deal.
As a routine practice, the visitor requested a test drive, and the unsuspecting owner agreed.
Zulfiqar asked his young son to accompany the ‘customer’ for a brief test drive.
The police official said that as they approached a local market, the suspect stopped the car outside a pharmacy and asked the boy to get him medicine from the store. As the boy entered the pharmacy, the swindler drove away.
The young man later informed his father about the incident, who reported the matter to the Defence C police station and lodged an FIR against the unidentified fraudster.
The police say they are using data from street cameras to trace and arrest the swindler.
