LACK OF FACILITATION: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) centre in Durug tehsil lacks basic facilities, such as waiting rooms, water coolers and washrooms. As such, programme beneficiaries have to wait for hours outdoors without any shelter. The situation is particularly difficult for women and children who travel from distant areas in today’s scorching heat. Considering the centre’s location in a tribal area along the main road, it is essential to provide basic amenities and ensure the dignity of the beneficiaries. The authorities should prioritise improving the centre’s facilities to make the programme more effective and respectful for those it serves.

GAS CYLINDERS: Due to irregular gas supply in Baldia Town, the residents are compelled to use gas cylinders, which sometimes leads to tragic accidents. Explosions caused by faulty cylinders have the potential to result in human and monetary losses. It is important to raise public awareness about the safe handling of gas cylinders, including the importance of checking their expiry dates. Moreover, the authorities must take immediate steps to ensure a consis-tent supply of natural gas to the area in order to prevent such disasters.

ORANGI TOWN LOADSHEDDING: Every night, electricity supply is sus-pended for more than three hours in Orangi Town’s Mominabad area in Karachi. In fact, this suspension is in addition to the eight hours of loadshedding during the day; every day. Amid the rising temperatures in this scorching summer, power outages have made life unbearable for the people. Despite paying heavy bills, no schedule or justification has been provided by K-Electric (KE). Unfortunately, this negligence is not only affecting daily life, but also damaging small businesses that depend on un-interrupted electricity supply. The higher authorities should intervene in the matter.
