KARACHI: Three suspected robbers were shot dead in separate encounters in the metropolis early on Sunday morning, said police and rescue services officials.
Korangi Industrial Area police said that three suspects snatched mobile phones, wrist watches and Rs5,500 cash from two citizens, Shabbir and Waqas in Korangi. A police party on patrol saw the fleeing suspects and went after them.
In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, all three suspects were killed.
Korangi Industrial Area police SHO Mohammed Ali Niazi told Dawn that one suspect was gunned down by the police in the encounter on the spot, the second one died when he fell down in a drain in his attempt to flee during which his neck broke, and the third one was killed by police and a citizen, who had a licenced weapon.
The deceased suspects were identified as Jameel Ahmed, Raheem Zaman and Akhter. They had criminal records as they had earlier been arrested in robbery, encounter and attempted murder cases.
