BAJAUR: A policeman was shot dead by unknown assailants in Utmankhel tehsil here, Rescue 1122 and police officials said on Monday.

Rescue 1122 media coordinator Riaz Ahmed Khan, in a statement, said Umar Mohammad, 36, was on way to his Hayati village on Sunday evening when he was attacked, leaving him critically injured. He was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Khar, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said an investigation was underway to ascertain the motive and trace those responsible for the killing.

The police also registered an FIR against unknown assailants.

An official said an investigation had been launched to determine if it was an act of terrorism or a personal dispute.
