PESHAWAR: Local courts have convicted two accused persons for narcotics smuggling and sentenced them to life imprisonment with fine of Rs500,000 each.
An additional sessions judge, Inamullah Khan, found the accused, Fazal Mohammad guilty of smuggling 50kg of charas, which was recovered from the car he was travelling in.
Similarly, another sessions judge, Imtiaz Ali, convicted another accused, Zaib Khan for carrying 62kg of charas in his car.
Both the judges pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused and the evidence on record connected them with the commission of the offence.
The accused were convicted under section 9 (D) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Control of Narcotics Substance Act. The convicts were extended benefit of section 382-B of the Code of Criminal Procedure, under which their detention period prior to their conviction would be counted in their prison terms.
An assistant public prosecutor, Ms Qamrun Nisa appeared against the accused Fazal Mohammad and stated that he was arrested by Hayatabad police on Dec 14, 2022. She said that the police had recovered the contrabandfrom the accused’s car.
