LAHORE: Three policemen sustained injuries during a violent confrontation with alleged land grabbers in Raiwind on Saturday.

A first information report registered on the complaint of a policeman states that he along with some other cops was patrolling when they received a call that two parties were having a clash in Jamalnagar. They went to the scene and found that the suspects were having a clash over a land grabbing issue and called reinforcements.

He said a police team led by SI Waqas approached there and the suspects attacked them with bricks as a result a sub-inspector and two constables were injured.

The injured were shifted to General Hospital where they were said to be stable.

Police registered a case against 12 nominated suspects, including a woman, under sections 324, 440, 353, 186, 147, 148 and 149 of PPC.

According to a spokesperson for the DIG Operations, the incident occurred when Raiwind SI Rizwan visited a disputed site along with his team in response to a land occupation complaint.

The land grabbers held the police team hostage and subjected them to severe physical assault. When SI Waqas, in-charge of the Jia Baga checkpoint, arrived with reinforcements to rescue the trapped officers, the suspects attacked him with bricks. The attack resulted in a skull fracture of Waqas. Constable Ali Sher sustained critical injuries, while another constable got his arm fractured.

In another case, Rehmatullah, a resident of Jamalnagar, lodged a complaint stating that his daughter left her house situated in the same locality after closing it some time ago. Shehbaz, Farhad, Ali, Ahsan and Razia Bibi entered the house and took away kitchen items, air cooler, fans, chairs and tables and Rs50,000 cash. He alleged the suspects hurled threats when he intervened to get the house vacated.

Raiwind police registered the case.
