KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Thursday unanimously passed a resolution, condemning attack on the residence of Home Minister Zia Lanjar and demanding exemplary punishment for the culprits involved in the crime.
Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani, who tabled the resolution, said that the right to protest was fundamental, but no law or constitution in the world permitted blocking of roads or burning down of homes in the name of protest demonstration. “Now, time has arrived to look into the real motives behind such protests,” he said.
The minister said that the home minister’s house was torched and remained in the control of protesters for many hours. “This is an act of terrorism of the most serious nature,” he added.
Opposition Leader Ali Khurshidi also joined the chorus of condemnation and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers.
Sindh Minister for Education Sardar Shah said that no one’s house had been attacked like this before in Sindh and added that the attackers did not appear to be political workers. India had launched a proxy war against Pakistan and he did not rule out its involvement in this incident, he said.
Jamaat-i-Islami’s Muhammad Farooq said that attack on the minister’s house must be taken seriously and concrete steps be taken to improve law and order situation.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-backed Sunni Ittehad Tehreek member Owais Ahmed Khan also supported the resolution and called the attack on the minister’s house ‘a very unfortunate incident’.
