LAKKI MARWAT: Two policemen embraced martyrdom in a fierce gun battle with terrorists after an attack on a police post in the New Sabzi Mandi area of Bannu district on Tuesday night.

Officials said that a group of terrorists attacked the police post with light and heavy weapons in a bid to breach the building.

“They also hurled hand grenades towards the police post, which exploded with big bangs,” they said.

They said that the cops deployed at the post fought bravely and thwarted the terrorists’ plan to take over the building.

“During an exchange of fire, two policemen lost their lives and their bodies were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital,” they added.

Officials claimed that the terrorists also suffered losses as their several accomplices were either killed or injured in the gunfight.

After the attack, a large contingent led by regional police officer Sajjad Khan and district police officer Saleem Abbas Kulachi reached the spot and launched a search operation to find any other terrorist in the area. The police’s Counter-Terrorism Department personnel also took part in the operation.
