ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Shoaib, Aqeel Khan, Yousuf Khalil, Barkatullah, Muzammil Murtaza, Ahmad Nael, Sami Zeb Khan and Mohammad Talha Khan qualified for the quarter-finals of the 37th OGDCL Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships here at the S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Tuesday.

Fourth seed Yousuf in his men’s singles pre-quarterfinal faced stiff resistance from wildcard entrant Ahmad Chaudhary. The opening set was decided in a tiebreaker, which Yousuf won 7-5. Ahmad continued to fight hard in the second set but couldn’t maintain the same intensity, eventually falling 6-4.

Veteran Aqeel reached the quarter-finals after winning the first set 6-0 against Mohammad Salar who retired.

In other last-16 matches, Shoaib beat Huzaima Abdul Rehman; Barkatullah outplayed Moh­a­mmad Yahya; Mohammad Talha Khan came back strongly to defeat Mohammad Haziq Aasim; Sami beat Saqib Hayat; Mu­zammil outclassed Mohammad Huzaifa Khan and Ahmad Nael routed Mohammad Ali.

In the women’s singles quarter-finals, top seed Sheeza Sajid downed Lalarukh Sajid 6-3, 6-4 while Mehaq Khokhar comfortably defeated Zunaisha Noor 6-3, 6-1. Mahrukh Sajid completely dominated her quarter-final against Maryam Hussain to win 6-0, 6-0.

In junior 18 & under singles second-round match, fifth seed Haziq Arejo rallied from a set down to beat Abdaar Ali 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-0.
