RAWALPINDI: A man was gunned down during a robbery in Bahria Town, while another person was murdered over a family dispute in Westridge, police said.
Talah Yasin Qureshi, a resident of Adiala Road, lodged an FIR with the police on Sunday, saying that his cousin Muhammad Iqbal Qureshi got married to Shabnam, who after developing differences with her in-laws, returned to her parents’ house on Peshawar Road some six months ago.
He said that his father Yasin Qureshi with his wife and other relatives went to Shabnam’s parents’ house to convince her to come back to her husband’s house. He said that his father was waiting in his car outside the house while the other family members went inside for reconciliation.
He said that while his father was waiting in the car, Altaf Hussain called his sons, who after an argument, smashed a baton on his father’s head, injuring him critically. The complainant said he was also hit on the arm when he tried to intervene. He said as he called his mother and other women of his family from inside the house, the suspects were beating his cousin Iqbal Qureshi and his injured father.
He said he called the Rescue 1122 and shifted his father to the DHQ hospital, where the doctors confirmed his death. The police have registered a case.
One killed in robbery
In Phase VII of Bahria Town, a fast food restaurant was robbed by two suspects, in which one man was also killed. Bilal Haider, a resident of Magistrate Colony, lodged an FIR with the Rawat police, saying he and his other staff member had just opened the eatery when two unidentified persons carrying weapons and wearing face masks barged into the restaurant.
Upon seeing the armed men inside the food outlet, the security guard also came inside and tried to stop them, but one of the intruders pulled out his two pistols and held them up at gunpoint. He further said that one of the robbers snatched Rs770,300 from him.
The FIR said the suspects walked out of the food outlet on foot, and later the complainant heard a gunshot. When he went outside, he saw a man wearing shalwar kameez lying in a pool of blood, and a pistol was lying beside him. The suspect, who was in trousers, was speeding off, he added.
Later, the body of the deceased was shifted to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem. The Rawat police have registered a case.
