SWABI: A police patrol van was attacked by unidentified terrorists at Dua Mor in Gadoon Amazai mountainous region here on Friday.
District police officer Mohammad Azhar said that the incident took place a day after terrorists attacked Utla police station, injuring three police personnel on Thursday.
The patrol van was on way to Utla police station when it came under fire from atop a mountain near Sandwa village, officials said, adding that policemen retaliated with full strength, forcing the attackers to escape.
No casualties were reported, and soon after the incident police launched a search operation in the area.
Topi DSP Iqbal Khan said the police had launched a search operation to trace the perpetrators.
He said the Gadoon region was relatively peaceful, but after the three recent incidents – attacks on Jhanda police post and Utla police station and firing on patrolling van – more police force had been deployed in the region.
Also in the day, a farmer was killed and two others were injured in firing in Duobian Khoro Chowk on Friday.
Yar Hussain police station officials identified the deceased as Shiraz Khan. The injured were taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
The police registered an FIR and started investigation.
