NORTH WAZIRISTAN/SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Seven personnel sustained injuries when convoys of security forces came under two attacks in the Mirali subdivision of North Waziristan district on Sunday.

Sources said that the two attacks occurred at different places when the security forces were patrolling the area.

They said that the first attack took place in the morning when a security forces’ convoy was on a routine patrol. Four personnel were injured in the attack, who were shifted to a nearby military hospital.

The second attack also took place in the same area some time later, in which three more personnel were injured.

According to local sources, heavy firing was also heard in the area after the attacks, which spread panic among the residents. The injured personnel were shifted to Bannu by helicopter where they are undergoing treatment.

According to the sources, security forces cordoned off the area after the attacks and launched a search operation.

Meanwhile, one-day curfew imposed in many areas of Upper South Waziristan on Sunday, from 6am to 6pm, was lifted, local administration officials said on Sunday.

Upper South Waziristan deputy commissioner Saleem Jan told Dawn that the curfew was enforced in response to security threats indicating potential terrorist activity.

Following the lifting of the curfew, all previously closed routes were reopened for vehicular and passenger movement, leading to the restoration of traffic flow across the region.
