MULTAN, May 5: An international conference will be held here on Sunday (tomorrow) to highlight the emerging need for involving civilisations in dialogue for peace in the world.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani is expected to preside the event which organisers say was a continuation of a conferences already held in Spain and London as part of efforts to bring civilisations closer to each other.

Martin Bridger, Commander Metropolitan Police, Lambeth Borough, London, who has reached Multan to attend the conference to share his thoughts as international speaker, told a news conference at the British University College (BUC) here on Friday “we are inhabitants of a global village where we have to initiate a dialogue among civilisations, rejecting theories such as clash of civilisations.”

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Ijazul Haq will be the guest of honour in the conference. Leader of the opposition in National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman, former NA speaker Syed Fakhar Imam, MNA and central PPP leader Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Tehrik-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan, head of the BZU international relations department Dr Khawaja Alqama would also address the conference.

Mr Toaha B.Z. Qureshi, the president of Forum for International Relations Development, UK, would address the conference as international speaker. A representative from the British High Commission will also attend the event while representatives from Embassy of Spain and US Consulate have also been invited, said BUC programme director M.A Jehangir.
