SUKKUR, May 5: The district government launched the “Clean Indus Campaign” on Friday with a fleet of 10 boats, which will clean selected parts of the river of garbage and other refuse.
The district also organised a walk from Lab-i-Mehran to the Launch Stand to create awareness among people about hazards to health from polluted water.
District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah led the walk.
The nazim said that the campaign was aimed at cleaning the right side and upstream of the Sukkur Barrage of garbage, polythene bags and other refuse. He said it was their moral duty to keep the river clean and free from pollution.
He urged the people to cooperate with the district government and said the district on its part was implementing a scheme to stop sewage release into the River Indus.
District Coordination Officer Shafique Ahmed Khoso said that the campaign will make sure that people refrain from throwing garbage and filth into the river.
