LARKANA: A theatre performance on the theme of human rights and peace was staged at Chandka Medical College on Wednesday.

It was organised by the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, and the European Union, in partnership with the Islamabad-based theatre group Aman Kaar.

The auditorium was packed to its capacity and the audience was seen absorbed in artists’ performance.

The play portrayed how, in the past, society thrived in a peaceful environment, which was free from religious discrimination and how, over time, adversaries waged the fifth-generation warfare by exploiting and misusing the social media to sow the seeds of hatred and divide people on different lines. The performance triggered great enthusiasm and received applause from the audience.

Students especially appreciated the theatrical performance and acknowledged that they not only gained valuable knowledge but also greatly enjoyed the presentation.

Prof Dr Zameer Ahmed Soomro and Dr Fauzia Chandio, the principal and vice principal of the Chandka Medical College, respectively, presented Sindhi cultural gifts to all the artists of Aman Kaar as a token of appreciation.

Prof Soomro also addressing the artists, CMC faculty, students and other audience and said: “Centuries ago, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai produced verses for peace and prosperity not only for Sindh but also for the entire world. Sindh is a land of peace and brotherhood, and initiatives like this theater, which address essential topics such as human rights and interfaith harmony, are the need of the hour.” He expressed his gratitude to the team members of Aman Kaar theatre group for their outstanding performance, which not only entertained the students but also conveyed a powerful and meaningful message through their performance.
