KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has dismissed for not being maintainable a set of petitions filed by former employees of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) seeking the implementation of a promotion policy.
A two-judge constitutional bench comprising Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha and Justice Adnan-ul-Karim Memon noted that the PSM has incurred substantial financial losses exceeding Rs100 billion, with total liabilities surpassing Rs110bn.
It also stated that under such precarious financial situation, directing PSM to grant the retired officers’ claimed financial benefits under the 2009 promotion policy in these petitions was not considered appropriate at this time.
Various employees of PSM had filed petitions in the SHC in 2017-18, seeking promotion under the 2009 policy upon completion of 21 years of service from their initial placement.
