
LAKKI MARWAT: Two police officials were injured when armed terrorists ambushed a traffic police van in Darra Pezu town here on Thursday.
A police official confirmed the incident, saying that the policemen were moving to a duty point located near Lucky cement factory in an official van. “When the policemen reached near a basic health unit, around nine militants opened fire on it,” he said.
He said that it was a two-pronged attack that occurred at 5:30am and the assailants used assault rifles and rocket launchers.
“The sudden attack triggered a gun battle as the cops returned the fire and forced the militants to flee,” he claimed.
“During an exchange of fire, the police van caught fire and was burnt completely after being hit by several rockets,” he added.
He said official rifles, bullet proof jackets, helmets, magazines, wireless set and mobile phones of the policemen were also destroyed in the fire.
A Rescue 1122 official said that they rushed medical and fire fighters teams to the incident site. He said the medical team provided first aid to the injured cops and later transported them to the District Headquarters Hospital at Tajazai.
Meanwhile, Lakki Marwat DPO Mohammad Jawad Ishaq along with SP Investigation Murad Khan Wazir visited the hospital and inquired after the injured policemen.
