LAKKI MARWAT: A United Nations delegation called on Regional Police Officer Imran Shahid in Bannu on Thursday and discussed with him the security measures and other matters related to the UN projects and members.

The representatives of Unicef, UNDSS, UNOPS and WHO briefed the police chief about their organisations’ projects and operations.

Mr Imran declared the security of UN projects and its officials a top priority and said that in the current law and order situation, strict measures were being implemented for provision of foolproof security of UN officials.

He underlined the need for mutual cooperation and urged the UN agencies to improve coordination with each other.

Official highlights patrolling, establishment of checkpoints by police

The RPO told the delegation that more than 2500 policemen had been deployed in the district to guard vaccinators engaged in immunising children against polio.

“Along with mobilising subordinate police officials including superintendents of police, deputy superintendents of police and station house officers, special squads have been tasked with patrolling the area to maintain peace during the ongoing anti-polio drive,” he claimed.

Mr Shahid said that the continuous patrolling by policemen and establishment of checkpoints were part of the security plan to avert any untoward incident.

He said that the security measures were aimed to safeguard the activities of the United Nations’ agencies and maintain law and order in the region.
