WHILE everyone seeks attention to some degree, excessive and unhealthy attention-seeking can be dangerous and may indicate underlying issues, like low self-esteem or mental health conditions. Such attention-seekers are rightly called publicity hounds.

The so-called social media influencers do such inappropriate things regularly to get attention. The sudden rise in the use of social media and the desperation to go viral have come at the cost of social, cultural and religious values that are often undermined.

To stop this trend, parents as well as teachers can play a critical role. Parents must ensure that their children respect social and cultural values. For the last few years, our educational institutions have stopped focussing on the character-building aspect of students. This has led to the moral degradation in society.
