RAWALPINDI: A local trader was shot dead by an unidentified person on Thursday night, police said.

Aminullah, 37, a resident of Lane 7 Peshawar Road, was shot and injured at about 10pm, and was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital and then to Shifa International Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries after midnight.

Later, the body of the victim was taken to the DHQ hospital for postmortem.

The police have registered a murder case on the complaint of Arifullah, nephew of the deceased, and launched an investigation.

Arifullah said in the FIR that he and his brother were standing outside their home when his uncle Aminullah arrived on a bykea.

He said as his uncle was getting off the bykea, two unidentified persons came on a motorcycle and the pillion rider opened fire on his uncle.

As a result, he said, his uncle was injured critically.

He further said though they cried for help to catch up the attention of people to apprehend the attackers, they sped off towards Peshawar Road.

The injured was shifted to the DHQ hospital and subsequently to Islamabad hospital but he could not survive.

However, the police said that the motive behind the murder seems to be old enmity.
