KARACHI: Special measures to create a sedate atmosphere in the city were decided upon at a meeting of the Karachi Police officers on Saturday [April 15]. The measures came into effect immediately. In this connection, a directive has been issued to all policemen and officers based on the following lines: Certain vehicles such as rikshaws, tongas, Victorias and bicycles will not be allowed to carry bulb-horns. The police have been authorised to remove bulb-horns from such vehicles for which a receipt will be issued to the owner and the matter put before a court.

Gramophones with loud speakers and radios will not be allowed to be played in hotels and other public places after 11 p.m. Hotels not complying with this rule will lose their permits.

[Meanwhile, as reported by Dawn’s sports reporter,] in defeating Ceylon by 10 wickets and two runs in the second and last Test yesterday [April 15] in Karachi, the Pakistan team confirmed the glorious uncertainty of cricket. … This is the fourth victory of Pakistan over Ceylon in the Test. The first two were won in Ceylon and the other two in Pakistan.
