MERIT-BASED POSTINGS: With the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) having resumed flight operations to France, it is only a matter of time before some staff would be posted to the PIA offices in Paris. The authorities concerned should ensure that the most competent from among the senior executives are selected for the purpose. Indeed, the national airline cannot afford nepotism and favouritism anymore.

DOUBLE MISERY: While unending construction on Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project has become a nightmare for the people of Karachi, ‘protests’ on one issue or the other by the public at large add to the woes of the people, especially the commuters. Protest is a fundamental right of individuals in any democratic society, but it should not make life miserable for the public. Recent demonstrations, mostly related to water and electricity shortages, have only caused inconvenience to those who had no chance of resolving such issues.

LENDING LIBRARIES: Most public libraries in Lahore are not lending libraries. They do not issue books to those who want them. Books hold immense significance in our lives. They possess the power to shape individuals, societies and even entire nations. Why are libraries reluctant to lend books to their members? Did someone in the past fail to return them? Or do these libraries simply lack trust in their members?

FATAL ACCIDENTS: The Sindh government must repair and re-carpet the broken roads of Karachi on a war footing, and increase the number of buses so that the people may reach their work-places, homes and other destinations on time. Increasing the number of public buses is an effective way to minimise the number of deadly accidents that take place on Karachi’s roads currently.
