GUJRANWALA, April 30: Traders of Wazirabad main bazaar observed strike on Sunday and held a demonstration outside the TMA office after an anti-encroachment squad injured a shopkeeper on offering resistance.

On the orders of Tehsil Nazim Nawazish Ali Cheema, the anti-encroachment squad started removing platforms raised by shopkeepers. The TMA officials inflicted head injuries on a trader, Asghar, when he protested against loss of his goods.

Later, the traders observed shutdown strike, chanted slogans against the TMA and demanded action against the officials. They called off strike after the tehsil nazim assured them that their genuine demands would be accepted.

However, he made it clear that encroachments would not be allowed in the main bazaar.
