PESHAWAR, April 28: NWFP Health Minister Inayatullah Khan has said deserving hepatitis patients will get free treatment at the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar, under the endowment fund and the project will start within a month.

He was presiding over a meeting held at the health secretariat here on Friday to review the process of implementation of the endowment fund, said an official handout.

The meeting was attended by health director-general Dr Jalilur Rehman, Hayatabad Medical Complex chief executive Dr Arshad Javed, Khyber Teaching Hospital chief executive Dr Changez Hakim Khan, additional health secretary Younis Javed and other officers of the health department.

The meeting discussed steps being taken to utilise the fund and a number of decisions were taken to accelerate work on the project.

It was informed that mechanism was being chalked out to provide free treatment facilities to needy hepatitis patients at the LRH.

“Modalities are being framed carefully to avoid duplication and identify needy patients,” the additional health secretary told the meeting.

The meeting also discussed issues related to establishment of pharmacy shops at the Hayatabad Medical Complex and the Khyber Teaching Hospital.

The meeting was told that pharmacy shops, to be run in collaboration with managements of respective hospitals, would provide items used in surgery at reasonable prices to patients.
