KARACHI: A suspected robber was lynched by an angry mob in North Karachi within the remit of the Sir Syed Town police station on Saturday evening, police said.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi told Dawn that two armed men entered a shop in Shadman Homes near Anda Mor for robbery. However, the shopkeeper overpowered one of them. His accomplice resorted to firing and a bullet hit the shopkeeper.

While the suspect who opened fire managed to escape, a large number of people gathered there and started beating the suspect, the SSP said, adding that by the time police arrived there he was already dead.
