LAHORE: Police claimed on Thursday to have arrested the suspects involved in torturing a policeman to death outside a local court three days ago.

Assistant sub-inspectors Muhammad Shahid and Jamil from Shadbagh police station conducted a raid to arrest absconding suspects, Adeel Javed and Umair Javed involved in a cheque-dishonour case.

During the operation, lawyers of the suspects, along with their associates, attacked the police officials who were arresting Adeel and Umair outside the FIA court. ASI Shahid was severely injured in the alleged assault by the lawyers and fainted. He succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the CCPO.

He also directed the DIG operations to ensure immediate arrest of those involved in the attack.

On Thursday, police arrested both the suspects Adeel and Umair from Banigala, Islamabad, after conducting raids there.

DIG operation Faisal Kamran said that he was personally monitoring the team to arrest the suspects involved in torturing a policeman to death and injuring another.

He said that a team led by SP Civil Lines Abdul Hanan, SHO Mozang Ahsan Iqbal and others deserve appreciation for arresting the suspects in 48 hours.

He said that both the suspects would be presented before the court and the deceased policemen would get justice.
