KARACHI: A huge fire destroyed a closed restaurant at Do Darya in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Wednesday evening, police and rescue services officials said.

DIG-South Syed Asad Raza said the police immediately responded and cordoned off the place. The restaurant, Creek Inn, was “non-functional” for the last four-five years, he added.

A Rescue-1122 official told Dawn said that initially, they sent two fire tenders but realising the gravity of the problem, two more fire tenders were dispatched.

He said the restaurant was built with wooden structure due to which the blaze spread rapidly and remained persistent.

He said the fire was controlled after hectic efforts lasting for one and a half hours.

The structure was completely destroyed. However, the exact cause of the fire could not be ascertained till late in the night.
