LAHORE: Odds-on favourite bay filly Ronaq put up a splendid performance to win the Kashmir Day Cup in the Lahore Winter Race Meeting here at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by Lahore Race Club (LRC) steward Fawad Ahmad Cheema and trained by Aleem-uddin, Ronaq led all the way home to beat bay colt Prince William in the 1,200-metre race with chestnut colt Gold Finger claiming third spot among six starters.

The main supporting event, the Yasoob Again Cup run over 1,200 metres, was claimed jointly by Macs King (Abdullah Aamir up) and Brooklyn (Awais Anjum up), who dead-heated passing the finishing line locked together.

However, the day’s best performer was Karachi’s bay filly Wonder Women, owned by Syed Sibghatullah Shah III Pir Pagaro VIII, who in an impressive debut clinched the seventh race.

Exhibiting an excellent speed, the filly ridden by Mohammad Hanif and trained by Mohayuddin came from behind to defeat front-running filly Kit Kat by half-a-length at the line.

Hanif rode a brace of winners sharing day’s riding honours with jockey Awais Anjum who also rode two winners in a card of eight races.
