KARACHI: A toddler girl was killed by a stray bullet fired into the air allegedly during celebrations at a wedding in Lyari on Sunday evening, police and rescue services said.

Baghdadi SHO Majid Alvi added that two-year-old Hayat Fatima Sikandar, was shot and killed from a stray bullet at Ali Arcade in Moosa Lane.

He said the bullet fired from an unknown location hit the child who was in her flat located on 8th floor.

DIG-South Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that the police launched a search operation within a distance of two-and-half kilometres of the incident.

It transpired that the celebratory gunfire was carried out in a marriage ceremony of police constable Aftab Ahmed in the vicinity of the same area. Thus, the groom was taken into custody.
