KARACHI, April 21: Sindh Minister for Labour, Transport and Industries, Muhammad Adil Siddiqi, has asked the manpower and training directorate to establish more training centres.

Speaking at a briefing on the performance, ongoing and new developmental schemes of the directorate here on Friday, the minister said that while introducing new trades it must be kept in view that these trades were capable to fulfil the requirements of present age as well as future.

On the occasion, a detailed report was presented to the minister according to which seven new training centres have been set up while directorate was already supervising 34 training centres in the province. Among these, 17 are technical training centres, three women technical training centres, three apprenticeship training centres, four vocational training centres and seven youth training centres in which training is being provided in 30 trades.

The meeting was informed that the directorate had planned eight new development projects under annual development programme 2005-06 for which Rs50 million had already been allocated through which eight training centres would be established in Nawabshah, Kotri, Dadu, Larkana, Mirpur Mathelo, Federal B Area and Memon Goth in Karachi.

New Employment Exchanges will also be established in Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Mithi and Ghotki.

To provide training to workers of coal mines in Thar, a technical training centre will be set up in Mithi with a cost of Rs8 million, the report added.

The ongoing projects included a technical training centre (Male) in Landhi with a cost of Rs4 million, repair and renovation of TTC Sukkur and introducing new trades in the centre with Rs6.3 million, construction and introduction of new trades in TTC Latifabad, Hyderabad with Rs10.4 million while Rs4 million were allocated for the construction and renovation of directorate of manpower.

Survey of all TTCs throughout the province and construction of TTC Landhi will be completed by the June, the report concluded. —PPI
