UAF: Progressive farmers are achieving nearly double the average per-acre productivity, highlighting the need for agricultural experts to disseminate the latest technologies to the wider farming community.

This effort would ensure food security and make agriculture a more profitable profession, stated University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Sarwar Khan.

He was addressing officers from the Punjab Agriculture Department during the inaugural session of a four-week workshop titled ‘Finance, Administration Management and E-Governance’.

The workshop, by UAF’s Professional Training and Skill Development Center (PTSDC), is the 24th such training session mandatory for the officers’ promotion. Around 65 officers are participating in the programme.

Dr Khan said that the agricultural sector faces significant challenges, including low productivity, water scarcity, and climate change. He noted that progressive farmers are harvesting more than 65 maunds of wheat per acre and urged the dissemination of modern agricultural practices to benefit the broader farming community.

Dr Waqas Wakeel, PTSDC director, said that the centre is enhancing participants’ skills through 250 short courses focused on agriculture, livestock, and rural development. So far, the center has trained 11,000 people.
