QUETTA, April 20: Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said the MMA has no plan to quit provincial governments of the NWFP and Balochistan.
“No such suggestion or plan is under consideration by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal,” he told newsmen at the residence of the Balochistan Assembly speaker here on Thursday.
He added that the MMA’s supreme council had not received such suggestion from the Jamaat-i-Islami so far.
“We have no information about such demand by a Jammat-i-Islami leader,” Maulana Rehman said and added the demand might be an individual’s idea and the MMA had nothing to do with it.
He said there were no such circumstances or situation under which the MMA should quit the governments in two provinces.
Answering a question, he said though the MMA had differences with the PML-Q in Balochistan, it did not mean that the MMA should leave the provincial governments.
He said that a serious crisis would be created in Balochistan if the MMA quit the government and the ‘MMA does not want to punish the people.’
Answering another question about the ARD’s plan to launch a movement against the Islamabad, the MMA leader said that the opposition parties had consensus that ‘present democracy was incomplete, constitution has not been fully restored and parliament is powerless.’
However, he said, only one-point agenda of restoration of democracy was not enough for launching a movement against the rulers. Political parties should also create consensus on the issues of foreign and education policy and Islamic legislation in the country for launching an effective and strong movement against the government.
He said in the overall international scenario, the foreign affairs were more important than internal issues.
About United States policies on Iran, he said that the US leadership was confused on Iran’s issue. He added that the US had double standard on nuclear issue as it was not a NPT signatory but was asking Iran to stop enrichment of uranium.
He said a country which had not signed the NPT had no right to put pressure on a nation which had signed it and was running its nuclear programme according to the treaty.
He pointed out that the US had signed an accord with India regarding cooperation in civil nuclear technology, which had not been accepted as a nuclear power at international level.
He said the US was moving to isolation at diplomatic level as no European country was supporting its move against Iran like they had supported it on the issue of Afghanistan.
Maulana Rehman and NWFP Chief Minister Akram Durrani had arrived here from Peshawar in the special plane of Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Yusuf to condole with the Balochistan Assembly Speaker Jamal Shah on the death of his mother.
