KARACHI: Despite a ban on celebratory gunfire in the city, a six-year-old boy was shot dead when participants in a marriage ceremony fired gun(s) into the air in Surjani Town, on Friday, said police.
Two marriage party participants — a man and another six-year-old boy — were injured in the aerial gunfire.
West-SSP Tariq Illahi Mastoi said that some person(s) resorted to firing during the marriage ceremony in Taiser Town, Sector-35-C. The stray bullets killed one child and injured another child and a man.
The deceased was identified as Banjo, six, while the injured were Allan Shahzad, six, and Robin Baber, 30.
The deceased and the wounded were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The police rushed to the spot after receiving information and recovered one 9mm pistol used in the firing, said the SSP.
Surjan Town police SHO Ghulam Husain Pirzada said the marriage ceremony took place in Christian Mohalla.
He said the suspect(s) managed to escape from the spot leaving behind his pistol. The suspect(s) are said to be relatives of the victims. He said the condition of the injured child was serious.
