Five-star Mushtaq helps OGDCL down Wapda in President’s Trophy

KARACHI: Oil and Gas Development Corporation Limited’s (OGDCL) Mushtaq Ahmed took five wickets to lead the side to a 62-run victory over Wapda in their President’s Trophy match here at the KCCA Stadium on Thursday.

Mushtaq registered figures of 5-96 as Wapda were bowled out for 258, with Ayaz Tasawar, who came in to bat at number six, fighting hard with an unbeaten century (126 not out off 162, 15 fours and four sixes). Ayaz’s effort went in vain as he ran out of partners to bat with.

Wapda had started the day with overnight score of 9-2 and soon slipped to 75-5 before Ayaz and Bismillah Khan (42 off 64) stitched a 100-run partnership before the last four wickets added 83 runs.

Mohammad Adil was not available to bat in both the innings owing to injury. Mushtaq was backed by leg-spinner Arif Yaqoob, who picked up three wickets.

In the other match of the day, Pakistan Television’s (PTV) Mohammad Taha registered his maiden first-class double century (226 off 321, 17 fours and nine sixes) and also shared a 344-run opening stand with Waqar Hussain (154 off 255, 11 fours and three sixes) against Khan Research Laboratories at the SBP Sports Complex here.

PTV started the day with overnight score of 131-0 and finished with 456-3 when the teams decided to shake hands. PTV had overcome a first innings deficit of 144 runs and had taken a lead of 312 when the time ran out on day four.

OGDCL 346 in 122.2 overs (Hasan Raza 81, Abdul Rehman Muzammil 68; Ali Raza 3-62, Khalid Usman 3-87) and 182 in 50.5 overs (Hasan Raza 44, Asif Afridi 41 not out; Khalid Usman 4-42, Ali Raza 3-22, Naqeebullah 3-22); WAPDA 208 in 80 overs (Mohammad Ammar 68, Imran Dogar 45; Asif Afridi 6-52) and 258 in 65 overs (Ayaz Tasawar 126 not out, Bismillah Khan 42).
