KOHAT: Fourteen passengers, including two women, were injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a coach in Rahimabad area of Mattani, a Rescue 1122 spokesman said here on Wednesday.
The coach was going from Bannu district to Peshawar.
The spokesman said soon after receiving call from control room they rushed to the spot along with a medical team. “The passengers were provided first aid before being shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar,” he said.
PROCESSING PLANTS: The Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa minister for agriculture to help establish research-based processing plants like Tarnab Farms so that thousands of acres of unused land could be brought under cultivation for production of vegetables and fruits.
In a statement issued here, chamber president Rasheed Paracha said that provincial minister Attaur Rehman had promised to visit Kohat soon to set up a farmhouse for the benefit of farmers.
Mr Bangash said he had called on the minister and told him that establishment of processing units would usher in a revolution in the lives of farmers, who were unaware of modern technologies and also generate jobs.
“The initiative would help multiply yields, and improve the quality of organic fruits and vegetables in the region, especially garlic, guava, tomatoes, okra, mushrooms, loquat and oranges,” he said.
Mr Paracha said that every year half the crop of famous Kohat guava was lost due to diseases, causing huge losses to growers.
He regretted that big investors imported fruits and vegetables from Central Asia, Afghanistan and China despite the fact that Pakistan had the potential to produce great varieties of fruits and vegetables. He floated the idea of setting up projects like Tarnab Farms having experienced agriculture officers and food technologists to bring advancement to agriculture practices in the region.
