ISLAMABAD: The four-day training workshop titled ‘Writers and Illustrators Workshop’ concluded at the National Book Foundation (NBF) on Friday.

NBF, in collaboration with the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi, and Room to Read, had organised the extensive workshop, which was attended by writers and illustrators specialising in children’s literature.

At the closing ceremony, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training Raja Rashid Ali addressed the participants as the chief guest.

He emphasised the importance of creating quality children’s literature for their education and moral development.

“Storytelling is a highly effective medium for teaching and engaging children,” he highlighted.

He expressed the hope that the participants would apply what they learned to create quality work and further enhance their writing abilities. He also appreciated the collaborators’ efforts in holding the successful event, stating that the outcomes would be immensely beneficial.

“Literature must connect with practical life; it is essential to provide platforms for writers to develop their skills and create impactful content for children,” he added.

Sri Lankan writer and director Mahesh Pathirathna, while sharing his insight, outlined principles and guidelines for writing impactful children’s literature and shared actionable suggestions.

Pakistani artist, educator and children’s writer Rumana Hussain stated that the workshop focused on promoting book culture, storytelling, and picture books to make children’s education more effective.

“Writing for children is both an art and a science, requiring serious effort to produce content that nurtures their mental development,” she highlighted.

NBF Managing Director Murad Ali Mohmand, elaborated on the workshop’s objectives and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to fostering learning opportunities through books and stories.

He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Professional Training for its support in organising book fairs and storytelling events across the country.

Murad Ali thanked other collaborators for their invaluable contributions to making this significant initiative a success.

He reaffirmed the NBF’s dedication to organising similar capacity-building programs in the future.
