LAHORE: Fancied bay colt Sardar won the Munir Ahmad Dar Cup defeating bay colt Dhafir in a close battle here at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Named after an iconic Pakistan hockey captain, the term race for four-year-olds was contested over 1,800 metres.

Sardar exhibited great speed, stamina and endurance ridden by Aamir Pervez who won by over a length in a record time of one minute and 50 3/5 seconds. Sardar was trained by Tauqeer Ahmad.

Sardar bettered the previous record of one minute set by chestnut colt Jim And Tonic set up last year also under Aamir.

Sardar’s win on Sunday put him among the top contenders for this year’s Pakistan Derby scheduled for next month.

Dhafir was ridden by upcoming jockey Awais Anjum. Bay colt Swift and Retort finished third.
