SHIKARPUR, Feb 5: A central leader of PPP, Aftab Shaban Mirani, has opposed the inclusion of army officials in Anti-Terrorism Courts saying that such courts could not prove beneficial to provide relief from terrorism activities but rather they would create more problems.
The former defence minister stated this while addressing a news conference the other day.
He said that instead of establishing separate courts other than the existing courts of law, more judicial powers should be given to the regular courts to conduct speedy trials.
He feared that justice would not be provided to political leaders through such additional special courts because they could be politically victimized on the behest of rulers through such courts.
About the shortage of water, Mr Mirani slammed the authorities concerned for their poor performance in distributing water according to the provisions of the water accord.
He called upon the rulers to settle the burning issue of water technically in the larger interest of the agricultural development programmes as the province of Sindh specially and the whole of the country generally depended upon agriculture.
He said that the threat of war by India reflected its foolishness because if war took place both India and Pakistan would be badly affected economically and could not be able to survive economically for years and years.
