ROLE OF TRANSLATION: Languages, cultures and societies undergo remarkable changes over time. One of the key faci-litators of such a change are those who translate literary texts from one language to another. The role of translators in literature has remained important through the ages. They expand the scope of literature by truly generating readers, writers as well as reformists.

TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS: The traffic police department in Karachi these days is running a campaign against those driving without a licence. However, this campaign seems to be at the cost of ignoring all the other violations that are committed every minute on Karachi’s busy roads. The traffic police should stay focussed while performing their duties.

UNSAFE FOOTPATH: This is with reference to the report ‘135-year-old Lansdowne Bridge gets new lease on life’ (Dec 26). As an engineer and a resident of Rohri, I am concerned about the newly constructed footpath along the bridge that is based on iron plates. These plates are prone to corrosion over time. Additionally, the improper welding of these plates further aggravates the danger as they risk breaking under pressure. This poses a grave threat to pedestrians who rely on the footpath for their daily use. Ignoring these flaws could lead to accidents. The authorities must urgently address the issue by using durable materials and ensuring proper installation standards.

SIGNAL WOES: The first solar traffic signal installed at Giddu Chowk in Hyderabad has been non-functional for a long time. During school and office hours, the road often becomes congested, causing significant delays. People are unable to reach their destinations on time. The traffic police alone cannot manage the congestion effectively. This signal must be repaired and made operational as soon as possible.
