KARACHI, April 16: A 35-year-old woman and her eight-year-old daughter were killed late on Saturday night in a traffic accident near Natha Khan bridge on the Sharea Faisal.

The bodies were brought to the Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre where the victims were identified as Shamim Abbas wife of Shaikh Abbas, and their daughter Rawan Khan.

Initial reports suggested that Shaikh Abbas with his family was in a cab, which was hit by a bus near the bridge. The occupants of the cab were seriously injured and shifted to hospital where the woman and her daughter died.

Hospital sources said Shaikh Abbas, resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, was also critically injured and he was later moved to a private hospital from the JMPC.

The family were reportedly going to attend a wedding party in Malir.

Traffic on the Sharea Faisal remained blocked for over an hour after the incident.

The police arrested the bus driver, Malik Khalid, from the spot.
