LAKKI MARWAT: The police and the Frontier Constabulary repulsed terrorist attacks on their installations in Bannu district late Thursday night.
A police official confirmed the attacks and said that terrorists launched a multi-pronged attack on a police post located along the busy Peshawar-Karachi Highway in Landhi Jalandhar area.
He said that the terrorists used light and heavy weapons in a bid to breach the police building. “After knowing about the attack, local residents made announcements in mosques’ loudspeakers and came out of their houses to assist police,” he said.
The official said that the exchange of fire between the cops backed by armed villagers and the terrorists continued for over one hour, leaving a police official, identified as Asifullah, injured. “An effective response by policemen forced the attackers to flee,” he added.
Shortly after the first attack, terrorists carried out another two-pronged attack on the Frontier Constabulary installation in Naizam Bazaar area. “The FC soldiers fought bravely and repulsed the attack,” claimed the official, saying that the law enforcement personnel remained safe in the strike.
After the incident, the police beefed up security in the district and launched a search in the surrounding areas for the assailants.
