KARACHI: Zubair Baloch, the brother of outlawed Peoples Amn Committee’s imprisoned chief Uzair Baloch, has allegedly been ‘picked up’ after being released from prison on bail.

The relatives of the alleged Lyari gangster also staged a protest against his arrest outside the Karachi Press Club on Thursday.

The people, mostly women, chanted slogans, claiming that Zubair Baloch was taken away by law enforcers from Lyari.

The mother told the media that her son Zubair Baloch was released on bail from Central Prison on Dec 4 at around 8pm. She alleged that at around 2.45am, the law enforcers took away her son from the Chakiwara area of Lyari and since then his whereabouts were not known.

The family visited the police station but they expressed ignorance about the incident.

The mother said that her son was arrested in a ‘fake’ case around 12 years ago and when he was released, he was taken away within a few hours.

She has also filed a petition before the Sindh High Court. She urged the chief minister and senior officials for the release of her son.

The police were tight-lipped about the reported detention of Zubair Baloch.

However, a source told Dawn that Zubair Baloch, who was arrested in the murder case of Arshad Papu, had been ‘detained’ again.

Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court has issued notices to the IGP Sindh, home department and others over the petition of his mother.

Her lawyer Haider Farooq Jatoi told the media that Zubair Baloch got bail on Monday and was released on Tuesday from the prison.
