ISLAMABAD: British Pakistani boxer Amir Khan and Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Chaudhry Salik Hussain on Tuesday underlined the importance of sports in cultural diplomacy.

The boxer had a meeting with Chaudhry Salik and discussed different matters. The minister stated that athletes can play a significant role in promoting intercultural dialogue and community unity. By promoting sports and healthy activities, tendencies towards extremism can be eliminated, he said.

Minorities in Pakistan enjoy all political, economic, and social rights guaranteed by the constitution, the minister said. Pakistan has taken significant steps to promote interfaith harmony. Additional facilities and conveniences have been introduced in the sponsorship Hajj scheme for overseas Pakistanis.

British Pakistani boxer Amir Khan remarked that overseas Pakistanis have a deep love and attachment to their homeland, not only in the UK but around the world. Pakistan’s role regarding minority rights is crucial, and there are many opportunities for promoting religious tourism in Pakistan. Overseas Pakistanis are committed to investing in Pakistan, boxer Khan said.
