GUJRANWALA, April 5: A raiding party of the investigation police claimed on Wednesday to have seized 80kg charas worth millions of rupees and arrested a drug trafficker. Police received information that Iqbal alias Bala had stored a huge quantity of charas at his house for supplying it to other cities after smuggling the contraband from tribal areas.
A police team, led by inspector Riaz Husain Haidari, raided there and arrested him.
Police recovered charas from secret rooms of his house. DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq announced cash prize and commendation certificates for the police team.
Town budget: The Aroop Town approved a tax-free budget of Rs156 million here on Wednesday.
The meeting was presided over by Naib Nazim Ms Nabila Inayat while Nazim Rao Ikram Ali Khan presented the budget for the year 2005-06.
The nazim said Rs55 million had been allocated for development schemes while an income of Rs96 million was expected during the next three months from main sources. He said no new tax had been imposed and all expenditures would be met from the available resources.
The treasury benches accorded approval to the budget amidst criticism by the opposition.
KIDNAP: An industrialist was kidnapped for ransom by unidentified assailants on Mian Sansi Road here on Wednesday.
Reports said that scrap furnace owner Wahiduddin was siting at his shop outside his factory when some people appeared on a car. They picked him from his shop, bundled him in the car and took away to an unknown place. Later, they phoned to his heirs and demanded Rs4 million ransom for his release.
Sabzi Mandi police have registered a case against accused and are investigating.
It is stated that the industrialist has a murder enmity with his rivals while a court handed down his rivals death sentence.
Booked: A minor boy was booked in a dacoity case by Kamoki police while DPO ordered an inquiry here on Wednesday.
Reports said that Kamoki police registered a dacoity case against eight year-old boy Kashif while his mother approached DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq who ordered in inquiry in the case.
He sought the report from inquiry officer within seven days.
