FAISALABAD, April 5: About 100 sanitary workers of the Jinnah Town Administration boycotted their duty and staged a sit-in to protest against the non-payment of salaries to them for the last three months here on Wednesday. The workers gathered outside the office of Jinnah Town Nazim Muhammad Shahzad Malik and refused to go to their duty, demanding their salaries.
They also staged a sit-in at the Town Complex and blocked traffic on main Kutchery Road to express their resentment.
They said that due to non-payment of the salaries their families were facing serious problems.
They also marched on different roads and demanded that chief minister should direct the officials concerned for the immediate payment of their salaries.
CASE SOUGHT: An aged person of Chiniot tehsil has demanded the president and prime minister to order registration of a kidnap-for-ransom case against some accused who had allegedly abducted his son three years ago.
Talking to newsmen here at the Press Club, Zulfiqar Ali, resident of Chak 223-JB, said his son Zafar Iqbal was abducted by Zulfiqar Inayat and his eight accomplices on January 18, 2003 and demanded Rs500,000 as ransom for his release.
He said that during the abduction, his son was severely tortured by the kidnappers and was freed after 18 days.
He said that he had lodged 28 complaints, from SHO Langrana police to Punjab governor, during the last three years for the registration of cases against the accused and also met with a number of senior police officials but all efforts proved an exercise in futility.
He said that some months ago the accused, Zulfiqar, was arrested by Jhang police in a dacoity case and had been sent behind the bars.
He said the accomplices and relatives of Zulfiqar were threatening his family with dire consequences.
