SUKKUR, April 5: Two women filed a petition in the Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, on Wednesday against the RPO and the DPO of Sukkur, SHOs of Abad and Bagarji police stations and 200 other police personnel following looting of household articles and torching of houses in the Ganj Ali Jatoi village on March 30.
Ghulam Fatima and Bhagul stated in the petition that on March 30, a heavy contingent of police, led by Sukkur DPO Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh and SHOs Shamsuddin Soomro and Jehangir Mahar, raided the village, ransacked their houses and took away Rs200,000 in cash, jewellery, 45 cattle and other valuables and torched their houses before leaving.
They alleged that police also arrested seven people, including Ali Dino Jatoi, Hidayatullah Jatoi and Manthar Jatoi.
The bench fixed the case for April 7 to decide whether the petition was maintainable or not.
OFFICIALS SUMMONED: A bench of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur, on Wednesday summoned the Sindh chief secretary and the attorney-general of Pakistan on April 25.
The bench, comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani and Justice Zawar Hussain Jaffery, issued notices to the officials on a petition filed by Lala Asad Pathan against supply of contaminated water to people of Sukkur and release of sewage into the River Indus.
The court also ordered to ensure appearance of federal and provincial finance secretaries in the court on April 25.
Earlier, the court had summoned federal and provincial finance secretaries on April 5 but they failed to appear in the court today and requested adjournment of the case through an application.
INJURED: Three persons were injured during a robbery attempt by the armed bandits on the National Highway, near VIP Gate, Pano Akil, in the jurisdiction of Baiji police station, Sukkur district.
The bandits signalled a passenger bus to stop but the driver sped away. The bandits opened fire, injuring Zar Mohammad, Mohammad Zafar and Abdul Khaliq.
