ISLAMABAD, Feb 4: Terming the electoral reforms as against the spirit of the Constitution, Pakistan Muslim League (N) has said no institution except an elected parliament has the right to amend it.

The PML central working committee which met here on Monday, through a resolution, demanded of the government to pay heed to the rejection of the so-called electoral reforms by all the national political forces and transfer power to the genuine leadership through elections under a neutral and totally autonomous non-military setup.

The CWC was of the opinion that certain pronouncements of the government were designed to undermine the ideological identity of Pakistan, and change the direction of Pakistani nation’s social and political development away from the path determined by the founding fathers.

The CWC, declaring its opposition to all such moves, warn has the present rulers that Pakistan Muslim League will put up stiff resistance against any and all measures and policies threatening the ideological moorings of the country.

The party reaffirmed that the ideological identity of Pakistan, as repeatedly defined by the Quaid-i-Azam, has been clearly spelled out by the chosen representatives of the people in the 1973 Constitution.

The PML condemned the constitution of the military courts, terming it a ploy to subvert independence of judiciary and demanded of the government to revoke the decision forthwith. It said the setting up of military courts as unconstitutional and big hurdle in the dispensation of genuine justice.

The meeting supported the stand of lawyers in this connection and said it was in accordance with the national aspirations.

This meeting condemned baton-charge on the lawyers during a rally protesting the constitution of the military courts and demanded immediate action against those responsible for this act.—PPI
