KARACHI, Feb 4: A doctor was shot dead in New Karachi on Monday night.

The police said that Dr Fayyaz Karim, aged 45, was coming out of Masjid Ibrahim Khalilullah near Afaq Poly Clinic in sector 5-C in North Karachi, when he was fired upon by two unidentified assailants who were riding on a motorcycle.

The doctor was hit by a bullet in the head. He died on the spot.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem, the police said.

The police said that the dead man was a doctor at Civil Hospital. A watchman was shot dead in Baloch Colony in the early hours.

The police said that Rahmat Saeed, aged 45, was asleep in his rented room in Allahwala Colony in the police limits of Baloch Colony, when two unidentified men barged into his room and sprayed him with bullets.

Rahmat was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The police suspected old enmity to be a possible motive for the killing. The dead man hailed from the NWFP.

CARJACKING: Twenty-three vehicles — eight cars and 15 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.

Four cars were hijacked, Four others were stolen. Five motorcycles were hijacked. Ten others were stolen.

SUICIDE: A teenage boy committed suicide in a hotel in Garden area on Monday.

The police said that Khalilur Rahman, aged 16, hanged himself from the ceiling fan in his room at a hotel near Azeem Plaza in Garden where he was staying.

The police said that the boy had left his home in Quetta after a quarrel with his family and came to Karachi.

On Monday morning, an employee of the hotel discovered his body hanging in his room, the police added.

The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

ROAD ACCIDENT: A jobless man died in a road accident in Shershah on Monday.

The police said that Jahandad, aged 32, was coming from Tower to Shershah in a minibus of route N-4. As he got down from the minibus at the Masjid-i-Quba stop at State Avenue in Site, he was run over by a minibus of route of U-5 (JE-6174). He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The police claimed to have arrested the driver of the minibus, Bai Khan, and impounded the vehicle.

The accident victim hailed from Abbotabad and he had come to Karachi in search of a job in some factory in Site area, the police said.

GANG BUSTED: The police busted an inter-provincial gang of car hijackers in Nazimabad on Monday.

The Anti-car Lifting Cell of the police spotted suspicious persons travelling in a car (ADJ-522) in Nazimabad.

The police stopped them, and following checking the documents, they arrested Mohammed Isa Magsi, Abdul Nabi Brohi, and Abdul Ghani Brohi.

After interrogation, the police recovered five more vehicles on a lead given by the arrested car hijackers, the police said.
