RAWALPINDI: As many as 25,000 vehicles entered Murree on the eve of Independence Day, though the hill station has a parking capacity of about 4,000 vehicles.

On the other hand, the city traffic police impounded 300 motorcycles during crackdown on underage riders, modified motorcycles and one-whieelie.

According to the district police, one incident of firing in the air was reported in the Naseerabad area and shortly afterwards the accused was detained and a 30 bore pistol with ammunition was also recovered by the police.

Police spokesman for the city traffic police said that 25,000 vehicles have entered Murree on Independence Day and due to police strategy, no incident of firing in jubilationand wheelie was reported in Murree.

As part of the security and traffic planning, 14 police checkpoints had been established in Murree with deployment of more than 233 traffic police personnel and 750 police officials of the district police had been deployed in Murree to maintain traffic and law and order.

According to the spokesman, even though a lot of cars entered Murree on Independence Day, a lot more vehicles were leaving the hill station, so visitors didn’t have any trouble parking.

He said Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Beenish Fatima herself was present in the field in Murree and reviewed the traffic arrangements so that tourists entering to and from Murree on the occasion of Independence Day should not face any kind of difficulty.

Ms Beenish said that in spite of limited parking space and limited resources, the city traffic police ensured uninterrupted flow of traffic in the hill station.

The traffic ensured the uninterrupted flow of traffic and performed their duties in the best way and helped the tourists, she said.

On the other hand, the Islamabad Capital Territory police also impounded more than 400 motorcycles under section 134 of the PPC during a crackdown on underage riders, one-whieelers and modified motorcycles.

The Senior Superintendent of Police has directed the police to release the impounded motorcycles only after August 16, 2024 on the orders of the court of law. He also warned all Moharars of police stations that strict departmental action will be initiated against those in case of disobeying his orders.
